So far so good

Upgraded original home alarms with three of these dual sensor units with 10 year battery backup. 2 units activated with no issues. The third unit failed to beep after pulling the activation tab. And continued to beep once every minute or so. I unplugged the device, pushed the test button again, and it chirped properly. I reinstalled and tested all 3 with no further issues.

Exactly what I needed

I went to Lowes, Home Depot, and Walmart looking for a fire alarm that I could replace with my old one. None of the 4 I bought had the correct adaptor. The first one I got from USI was perfect. Will be replacing another very soon

Easy to install, no false alarms

I ordered this to replace an older wired smoke detector. I turned off the electricity, removed the wiring harness from the old detector by twisting off the wire nuts and installed the harness from the new detectors. There were no false alarms since I installed it.

Easy replacement

I ordered direct from USI electric. The six pack was packaged neatly and securely. This detector replaced our 12 year old USI product and plugged into the existing harness. It was necessary to change the base plate, which was quick and easy. The 10 year sealed unit is a real plus. All in all, a great product.

So far, so good

Installed 8 of these in my home to replace 10 year old detectors with 9 volt batteries about 6 months ago. Got tired of replacing batteries, plus the cost of 9 volt batteries seem to increase every year. Had one that had a led that would change in its brightness level every few seconds. An email to the company and it was replaced free of charge. Included the return postage for the old one as well. Very good customer service. I would recommend this product and company. Ask me how I feel about them in 10 years.

Easy installation to replace expired alarms

I had a house-full of USI alarms that were over 10 years old. I called to ask what options I had to replace them. The very helpful rep listed several, including these sealed systems with 10-year Li batteries. I ordered them nice discount!, they arrived, and I had them in place with no more than an hour of work, mainly to replace the old mounting plates with the new ones these required. Good experience.

Highly recommend Universal Security Store.

It was a pleasure doing business with this company, especially the nice lady in the office who helped with a billing question—very polite and helpful. Shipping was fast and product arrived in good shape. At 70 years old, I was on my own with replacing 7 wired alarms. USI instructions are thorough and easy to understand. I also did other reading about dealing with electrical wiring. After turning off the power supply, which was wired separately from the rest of the house, I also used a voltage meter to be sure no power was detectable. Although, it would have been nice to just plug in the existing harness, I used the existing wiring nuts with the connector that came in the box with the USI alarms. I used the third yellow wire for interconnecting the alarms. I pulled the tag to activate the 10-year battery and each alarm sounded as expected to ensure activation. After I put the seventh alarm in the backplate, I turned on the power and all lights were green. I tested each alarm and all worked and I could hear that they were properly interconnected. One try and done! It is important to know that if the backplate screws are too tight, the alarm will not fit under the tabs for hanging it.

All alarms in house I bought were 14 years old. Same brand different model. Plugs were identical, but had to change the bases. These worked great. I like not having to change batteries every year. Cheaper in the long run.

Great replacement for old sensors

Our old smoke detectors were about 10 years old and starting to give false alarms. I ordered 7 of these and received them promptly. I thought I could use the same plugs from the old Kidde detectors, but found that they were wired differently than these new ones. Installation was quick and easy and I love the 10 year battery life. No chirping in the future!

Replaced old style with 9V battery

Customer service assisted with making the best choice to replace old style 9V batter USI units with MI106S. It wasn't an exact replacement but SOOOO easy to install. I wish I would have done this years ago. Were also using the MI106S in our 2000 sqft addition. One lesson learned was to make sure you replace ALL the old style non-compatible alarm units. I forgot one hidden in a hall and fried the last in the daisy chain new unit. it was my fault. Inventory your current units and make sure you get them ALL before you turn the AC supply back on.

Perfect

After seeing news stories about the different types of residential fires that have killed people because their smoke alarms weren't the right kind, I knew I needed to upgrade. These were the perfect choice. They were easy to switch out with my old hard wired alarms. They also have the bonus of the 10 year battery so no annoying chirps at 1am when the 9 volt backup starts to die and needs to be changed.

I just replaced all of my smoke, fire, and carbon detectors in my home with the 10 year sealed battery units. I had original USI detectors in my home when we purchased the home 12 years ago. Great smoke alarm but poor instructions and mediocre customer service

The smoke alarms are really nice and easy to install. One issue I encountered though was that the plug I had was exactly the same but the wires for the model I had before had the hot and neutral wires switched. I destroyed the smoke alarm and it caught fire when I plugged it in. Customer service responded quickly and suggested a wiring issue. I suggested putting a label on the alarm indicating that they need to use the pigtail they send because other pigtails even with the same adapter may have the wires switched. There was crickets to my suggestion or an offer to discount the replacement unit. Full circle customer service should not be expected.

Excellent smoke detectors

The previous owner who built the house had USI Electric smoke detectors. I knew he researched everything, so I was confident that these were the best on the market. Doing my own research, I confirmed that. I upgraded to a model with an enclosed battery, since I have 10 detectors and high ceilings, making changing batteries every year a real hassle, not to mention the expense of the D batteries. I just had them installed yesterday by a licensed electrician as recommended. I like the design, as it's not overly large and has the same footprint as the previous ones. Very happy with the purchase.

Works fine but not plug compatible

I bought these as replacement for my ten year old USI-5204. Customer support told me that these would match the electrical connectors exactly but that I would have to replace the mounting brackets. I didn't want to have to do electrical. They were wrong. The old electrical connectors would not seat into the new detectors and stay snug. In the end I had to change all of the electrical connectors. This was not what the company told me.

The smoke detectors are the topnotch detection. With the 10 year lithium batteries I can rest easy for 10 years. I had an issue with one detector on a previous order. I was replacing 10 year old USI alarms that started beeping at midnight one night. I was not aware that smoke detectors had an expiration. Anyway, I specifically ordered this brand because I figured the install would be much easier -- reuse the base plate and plug...right? Nice looking units. Come with very nice paint shield installed that is easy to remove. Only negative is I liked the mounting base on my older USI smoke detectors better. They were stronger and deflected less when tightened and the screws from standard 4 octagon box fit the plate better.

Initial quality is there

Time will tell if the 10 year sealed battery will hold up, but initial installation was fairly easy and dual sensing technologies in one device, and having updated all detectors throughout the house gives me a sense of security and satisfaction! Looking forward to not having annoying low-battery chirps which inevitably go off at 2am! Happy 2020, see you in 2030 when I will replace them again... with any luck, battery technology will have evolved in this decade so the generation of 2030 products will have a sealed battery for 20+ years!

I replaced 7 detectors and it could have been easier. I had to change out the old mounting brackets to the new ones included, which was super easy two screws. The new detectors plugged right in and I was done in no time. Just follow the instructions. It was a pleasure to not have to deal with any annoying beeping during the replacement process.

I needed to replace 7 units that had expired over 10 years. I asked Michelle what new units were available that were compatible with the old units. Michelle gave me several options and the new units I choose could use the same plug from the old units. So installing each new unit took about 2 minutes for each unit. I spent more time moving the ladder than it took to install them. Michelle was very quick to respond to my email. I choose units that have a 10 year sealed battery, so now I don't have to change batteries every 6 months.

All-in-one for me

I did a lot of research when I found this alarm - I wanted 2-in-1 detection, a backup battery I did not have to check/replace for a long time and a reasonable price. I ended up buying 5 to replace my older units in my home.

Seems to be excellent detectors and at a good price! Photoelectric/ionization type combination units are not that easy to find, and with a 10 year battery, should be a great product!
